Friend Makin' Monday

Just another manic Monday, wish it was Tuesday, cause that's when the kids are back in school day...

Welcome back to Friend Makin' Mondays, hosted by Amber @ aefilkins. Today's topic...

With the new year here, and resolutions & organizational goals in full force, what are some of the projects on your list? Are you working on any specific projects around the house, such as purging, organizing, craft projects, home improvement projects? Share with us! {And hopefully you'll be sharing the before & afters on your blogs, so we know what we can tune in for!!}

~ The first project that already got started was planting some shrubs and such in our front yard. We needed to do this for two reasons. First of all, our yard is still a dirt/rock lot..no landscaping = not very enticing at all. The second reason is to try to block our neighbors cactus that ends up in our yard, and in us, and on our outdoor swing, so every time we sit on it we end up getting poked. So over the weekend, this is what we did...

See the neighbors cactus...tons of tiny little red suckers on there just waiting to invade the skin...

~ Another project is to replace some of the blinds in our house. Now that the kids and the dog are done destroying the ones we did have. This is coming a little at a time though...already ordered one for the living room that will come in in about a week..$138..*cough cough*, sorry couldn't breath there for a second for some reason. The ones in the kids rooms aren't going to be this same kind though..we'll stick with the regular plastic blinds for their rooms. It will be particularly nice to replace the ones in my sons room. Seriously, he has a ton of bite marks all over them from when he was younger. BITE MARKS! It's like he was trying to bust out or something, or looking for protein..I don't really know.

~ We also have on order some ledgestones to go on the bottom of our house on the new addition. The stem wall is just the painted bricks right now..and it needs some covering. That is due to come in in a week also.

~ The kids rooms are already re-painted, but still need to fill up their wall space. You can see their new rooms here. Be prepared for the bright, colorful walls! We also need to fill up the walls in almost every room of the house. So that's a project to tackle also.

~ And a very important project is to get to know my camera instead of just snapping pics and hoping for a good outcome. I love pictures, and still have to figure out how to operate our new Nikon Coolpix L100.

Well, I was really done with this post, had just got done taking a picture of Jayce's bite mark ridden blinds..when Taylor came in the room to show me a project she had just got done making. She had been trying to make a piece of cake with a candle on top of it. I have to say she did a pretty good job...but when I saw the candle, my mind immediately went into the gutter..I'm sure you'll understand..take a look...

Friend Makin Mondays

Another day in the life of friend makin' mondays, and today's topic is about hairstyles. Amber would like to know...If you cut your hair tomorrow, what would it look like?

Well, let's see here, if I were to cut my hair then I probably wouldn't have much left, as it's already pretty short. So this is what my hair looks like at this moment in time...

Here are a few options that I wouldn't mind having...this first one is one that I've already had and it'll be that way again next hair cut...

This is what I'd like to have if I had thicker hair...I have plenty of hair, but it's fine so looks like I don't have too much...

And here's what I'd like to have when I'm feelin' spunky...

If you would like to participate, then link up with Amber and let us know what you would do!

*Reminder...tomorrow will be my 100th post..and my first giveaway!

Friend Makin' Monday

Happy Monday everyone! I'm sure happy here...because it's raining here in AZ this morning..we hardly remember what that stuff is here. For this week's edition of FMM, Amber wants to know about embarrassing moments. Ok, I have to stop and think about this one...either I just plain don't remember any..or just not easily embarrassed. Really, I know I'm not easily embarrassed, but I'm sure I've got something out there I'm sure. Here's the instructions...

Okay, we're gonna get a little candid this week and share some of our most embarrassing moments.

So go ahead, spill it! Was it something you said? Something you did? Something your kids or pet did?

{If you're too chicken, share something embarrassing about someone else. Just don't name names!}
:)

Ok, the ONE thing that reallllly comes to mind when I think of embarrassing moments, is when I think of my son. I think he was 3 at the time..he's 6 now. We were at the grocery store getting ready to shop when we ran across a woman that I had just recently been acquainted with after I became a fire board member. After standing there talking for a few moments, my son pointed at her and stated "she has a big butt". Oh, the horror. When I asked him to apologize since it wasn't nice..he just got quiet and stared at me like "what did I do?". He was just making a factual statement and wasn't intending to be rude. But oh the saddened look on this woman's face, it was terrible. So, I had to apologize for him and move on our merry way since there wasn't a huge rock for me to hide under.

Have an embarrassing moment you would like to share, or would you like to participate in FMM? Go and visit Amber @ aefilkins and join in!

Happy FMM everyone! Wow, seems like I've been gone for forever! It's just been shy of a week since I've been on here, yet seems like it's been a month...I was feeling the withdrawals! Craziness I tell you! Guess I have me an addiction now...blogging and reading up on what is going on in your lives!

Ok, on to the topic of the day. Today Amber has posted up a survey and is requesting everyone try to get around to commenting on as many people as possible. Can do!

1. Favorite website?

Hmm, this one may be a little hard. Seriously though, since these two are the ones that I go to over and over again...they would be blogger.com (or more specifically my blog!) and facebook.com. Since I really like fairies...laceylady.com has a huge variety by different artists. And I'm a book worm....so barnesandnoble.com is visited frequently.

2 Favorite color?

Purple.

3. Facebook?

Yep! Still kinda new on there so still in the honeymoon phase with it. Sure I'll invite ya...just keep one thing in mind...I don't talk about my blog on there..so let's just keep it separate! You can find me by searching for my name....Rosalie Koch Pendergast.

4. Favorite Christmas song?

Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

5. Christmas Tree: Real or Fake?

Fake. No mess, less maintenance!

6. Hottest celebrity?

Ok, here's the part where I say...celebrities are over-rated!

7. Favorite restaurant?

The Melting Pot.......mmm, salivating here!

8. Favorite magazine?

SHAPE

9. Favorite thing to drink around the holidays?

Hot chocolate that is made with milk and cooked on the stove, with lots of extra Hershey's Chocolate Syrup added. Topped with a ton of marshmallows.

10. Favorite Christmas movie?

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I have kids...what can I say?!

Hope everyone's Monday is a good one...and if you would like to participate in FMM, visit Amber and play along!

Friend Makin Monday

This week is all about Thanksgiving...and Amber has thrown 10 questions our way...

1. Turkey or Ham?
Turkey, Turkey and more Turkey! I love it!

2. Favorite side dish?
That would have to be grandma's green beans...Mmm sooo good!

3. Favorite dessert?
Pumpkin pie and tons of "whooped" cream.

4. Black Friday..are you going or not?
I might have thought about it this year, I've only been one year before. But, I have the
majority of the presents bought already and it falls in a bad part of the pay period...house
payment and truck payment all due with this check = not much shopping.

5. If so, what's on the top of your list?
If I were going..I think the item that would be on the top of the list would be an Xbox or
a Wii.

6. Going out of town or staying close to home?
Staying.

7. Hosting or helping?
Hosting.

8. Name one family tradition at Thanksgiving.
Well I guess I can't say we have a tradition, other than getting together with family and
enjoying each others company and the delicious food.

9. What do you do after dinner?
Continue visiting..and then when everyone has gone..rest!

10. What are you most thankful for this year?
Well let's see here, I guess that would have to be that even though my husband's
company will be laying my husband off in approximately one week due to not enough
business, I am thankful that #1 he has survived the majority of the cuts that started over
a year ago, and #2 that he is prepared and already has another job lined up.

For anyone who is interested in joining in on FMM...go and visit Amber.

I so was NOT going to post on today's topic...Favorite Winter Recipes. I.Don't.Like.To.Cook. I really don't. I don't do recipes but maybe a handful of times per year...kinda sad I know! But...I will tell you what recipes I do love!

I LOVE whatever this guy (my husband) whips up. He, on the other hand, likes to cook. Yay me!

And....I LOVE whatever this woman (known to you all as Shortmama @Family of Shorts) whips up. She, on the other hand, loves to cook. Double Yay for me!

So I am going to use this post to promote Shortmama's recipes at her food blog...

Short Cook, Tall Flavor

She really is short people ; ) ...but that woman definitely doesn't come up short in the cooking department...Yum! So for some yummy recipes..I'd go and check her out! If only you all could live as close to her as I do!

IF LIFE WERE A MOVIE, WHICH MOVIE WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN?

Hmm, I guess I would want to live in the Underworld movie. And I would like to be Selene who kicks butt!

And then on the softer side, I would also like to live in Patch Adams, I love the idea behind this movie that is based on a true story.

And aside from joining in on the topic for the day...here is a snippet of a recent outing with my friend in real life...

This is my friend Melissa and I on an outing to a pumpkin festival

And this is us and our whole gang of kids.

And this is me checkin' out the scarecrow.

Friend Makin' Mondays

This weeks edition for friend makin' mondays, Amber wants to know:

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?

*I think the first thing that makes me happy would have to see that Amber still posted. After the loss that she is mourning, I am happy to see her around and feeling that there is a sense that it will be ok, instead of seeing no posts from her and worrying about her.

*A book, some lemonade or tea and the sun.

*A hiking trail.

*My friends...like fellow blogger Shormama...I love her!

*My family.

*Music, whether I'm listening to it while blogging or house cleaning, or dancing around like a crazy woman to it.

*Catching up with old friends on Facebook...I should've listened to Shortmama a long time ago...I think I may have a touch of stubborness to me!

*And mondays make me happy...I meet new people of FMM for starters (Lol) and also my kids go back to school and my husband goes to work, so I get some good me time. Love it.

So this week Amber wants to know...What are you going to be for halloween?

This year I'm not dressin' up..but the kiddos are of course.

My oldest daughter Alyssa is going to be an Aqua Fairy, Taylor is going to be Jasmine, and Jayce is going to be the Incredible Hulk. I'll wait to post pics of them for when halloween gets here though.

Until then...here's a glimpse of halloweens past...

So this week Amber wants to know...What are your hobbies and What do you wish that you knew how to do? I've participated in this for a little bit now..and realized that I have never commented on her posts before..how crazy is that?

So for the first question...What are my hobbies?

This social networking thing has turned into a hobby. I really enjoy the blogging experience and meeting new people. I just hopped onto the Facebook wagon too, and I find it rather addicting..this after it has taken me forever to decide to actually join in.

I love to scrapbook. I do this off and on..love doing something creative with all those memories.

Love taking pictures to preserve memories.

I have drawn a little...ok, a real little. But proud of the one masterpiece!

What do I wish I knew how to do?

Wish I knew how to draw better. Guess I could if I took the time to learn the tips and tricks. I absolutely love the amazing pencil drawings that I have seen.

I wish I could be a good dancer. I love music, so I wish I could move to it.

I wish I knew how to play the drums....love the beat of the drums.

Wish I knew how to find a money tree so I can do all the things I would like to do! Those trees don't grow here in AZ!

Friend Makin' Monday

This week Amber wants to know what we cannot live without.

First would have to be that I cannot live without my family and friends..love them! And my dog Roxy.

Here is just a few of my family and friends..I would've added more, but blogger is really ticking me off and it's having problems scrolling the pics down..so I had to cut and paste, and I'm not going to do it anymore!

Here is my hubby whom I love to pieces..

This is my friend Jen, whom I have been friends with since my freshman year in high school, and then we married brothers and became family.

Here is a mixture of kiddos...L to R: My friend Amanda's (also known as Shortmama) daughter's that are holding hands, Rhiannon and Layla, my niece Ashlyn, my daughter Alyssa, my daughter Taylor and in front is my son Jayce.

And here are my kids with my brother that I love so much, Brian

And here is my loving dog, Roxy.

I cannot live without books...I love to read.

I cannot live without music...good for so many things, makes cleaning seemingly go by faster, can dance around to it, etc.

My soft blanket and squishy pillow...ahh it's wonderful!

Sweet Tea...Ridiculously Sweet Tea! Mmm!

My camera and camcorder to record our life. Love looking back on our memories and the things that I may have forgotten about, but are documented through photos and video.

There are really so many other things, but I'll keep it short.

Friend Makin' Mondays

So the question from Amber this week is...What are some of your favorite things about fall?

The change in weather is definately one favorite thing. Everything in general just seems more relaxed and enjoyable when the hotter than hay temps make an exit.

Another favorite is knowing that the AZ State Fair is just around the corner. Love It! I remember being taken to the state fair by my dad when I was a kid. And I remember when my oldest daughter was old/tall enough to go on the rides, we took my dad with us one time. Ohh my gosh, I still crack up to this day thinking of the that ONE ride. It's the ride that looks like a strawberry and it turns in a circle, and it has a wheel in it that you can make the strawberry spin fast or slow while going in a circle...still with me?...well I was stuck in between the two of them and they both looked like they were having the worst time of their lives, they couldn't wait for it to stop and were both on the verge of utter fear. And what was I doing? I was crackin' up 'til I was cryin'. Oh man it was hilarious..well atleast to me.

But since then I take my kids each year. I haven't taken my son yet, waiting for him for him to get older/bigger. But here are some of those great pics that we like to get taken while at the fair.

Me and my daughter Alyssa

Me and my daughter Taylor

And then another favorite would, of course, have to be halloween. Love to take the kids to pick out their halloween costumes. Sometimes the sizing on the costumes are not very correct though. Like the year that all of their costumes were too small. My oldest daughters behind was just above where the fabric ended. I had her wear the costume anyways and just bought her a pair of black tights to help with coverage. My friend Shortmama's parents happened to be trick-or-treating with all of us that particular year and one of them mentioned how small the costume was...I said "yep, she's very bootyful!".

This wasn't the year of the short costumes.

L to R: Jayce, Taylor, niece Ashlyn, and Alyssa

I could probably list a few other things that I really like about fall, but these are the ones that I look forward to the most. Just throw in some hot cocoa and marshmallow roasting and we're good to go! Oh yeah, and we can ride our Polaris Ranger without feeling the wonderful heat searing our skin.

Friend Makin' Mondays

So I'm hopping on the wagon and joining Friend Makin' Mondays, which is hosted by Amber. It is 20 questions, for the nosiness in us all. So here are the questions...

1. DO YOU COOK EVERY NIGHT?

Unfortunately, yes. I really don't like to, but if I must.

2. WHAT KIND OF LAUNDRY DETERGENT DO YOU USE & WHY?

I seriously had to go to my laundry room to find out the answer to this question..I use ALL. I don't really have a specific reason...maybe the packaging was pretty!

3. DO YOU DO LAUNDRY EVERYDAY OR LOADS AT A TIME?

I do laundry as needed. When I have enough for a load of colors, then I do them, etc.

4. HOW OFTEN DO YOU EAT OUT PER WEEK?

Well that varies, depends on what I'm out doing and if I'm out long enough. I'd say it's approximately 2x per week.

5. WHERE DO YOU USUALLY EAT OUT?

If it's fast food, then we do Taco Bell, Mcdonald's, KFC. If it's a restaurant, The Olive Garden, a really yummy mexican food restaurant called Valle Luna.

6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RETAIL STORE?

I guess that would be Target.

7. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DRINK?

That would be some tea with my sugar please. Reeeeaally sweet tea.

8. DO YOU TAKE VITAMINS? WHAT KIND?

I really don't like to take much of anything, but sometimes I take the sublingual (under the tongue) vitamin B-12 for energy metabolism....I'm tired an awful lot of the time.

9. WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE HOUSEHOLD CHORES DO YOU DO?

I'd say about 70% or so of the inside chores...and my husband does about 50% of the outside chores...I don't know who's responsible for the other 50%.

10. DO YOUR CHILDREN DO CHORES?

Umm, yep. I'm not doing it for them. They make the mess, they clean it up. They are each responsible for their own rooms. Alyssa does the dishwasher and washes what can't go into the dish washer and she does the dusting part time....we both have bad allergies, so we split this task. And she also takes the garbage out. Taylor is responsible for cleaning the sink in the kids bathroom and for keeping the table in the kitchen washed. And Jayce washes the kitchen chairs and helps put away the cans and boxed goods after grocery shopping.

11. DO YOU GO TO CHURCH?
No.

12. DO YOU HAVE A HOUSEWORK SCHEDULE?

No. I clean it as it gets dirty. The only spot in my house that has stuff piled/not taken care of, would be my computer desk usually has a small stack of papers/books/whatever piled on it, and my scrapbook desk is kinda in a disarray also. Other than that, I don't like messes, so I keep it clean as we go.

13. DO YOU KEEP A WORKING BUDGET?

No. I don't have anything that keeps track of the budget. Most of the time try to spend as little as possible. Try to always "pay ourselves first" by putting into savings. We spend a little, save a little and pay the bills on time, so it works for me.

14. WHAT DO YOU DO AT NIGHT AS A FAMILY?
I guess we don't specify night at family time. By the time my husband gets home from work, it is time for the two youngest to get to bed and the oldest stays up for 1 hour more. Each night they say their goodnights' and then they take their books to their room and read (in Jayce's case, look at the pictures) until they feel they've done that enough, and then lights out. So it's pretty much, homework, eat dinner, baths, goodnight and reading. When it's not so hot we go for walks.

15. HOW DO YOU PREPARE YOURSELF FOR A NEW WEEK?
I celebrate! While some people dread mondays..I celebrate them. That's when everyone goes back to school/work, and I get some me time. LOVE IT!

16. WHAT DO YOUR MORNINGS LOOK LIKE?
They look early to me. You see, I am NOT a morning person, so I like to be able to sleep in, atleast until 8 a.m., that would be good enough for me. But..here's the reality of it. I get up at 6:50 a.m. to get my oldest off and going. She has to leave the house at 7:20 to catch the bus. So I make sure she's done everything she needs to do. When she leaves I get the youngest two up and going to get them off to the bus at 8 a.m. Once they leave, there's always something different that I'm doing...either off to run errands, or relaxing at home and blogging, or cleaning house, or visiting shortmama, or cursing at my exercise video while working out...the list goes on.

17. WHAT TIME DO GET UP IN THE MORNING?
I get up at 6:50 on weekdays/school days. And I can only hope to sleep in until 8 a.m. on the weekends. You see, my husband is an EARLY morning person. I. Hate. It...but atleast he's nice enough to try to go back to sleep so I can sleep in.

18. WHAT TIME DO YOU GO TO BED AT NIGHT?
Anywhere between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. And then I lie there and read for a while before lights out.

19. HOW DO YOU MANAGE ALL OF THE PAPERWORK THAT FLOODS INTO YOUR HOUSEHOLD? (Bills, School Work, Magazines, Ads, etc.)
Well I have a bill holder on my computer desk to place all of the bills that seem to keep finding their way to us. School work, I look through their stuff, throw out their days work unless it's a memorable drawing, etc. and have them get started on their homework. Any school activity letters that get sent home, I mark the dates/events on my calendar and throw the papers out. I don't like clutter. Magazines I read through as soon as possible so I can get them thrown out too. Hmm, I'm starting to sound like a clean freak here...did I mention that I don't like clutter? I do have a filing system, and while it is set up pretty good, there is definately room for improvement, I'm just waiting on myself to buy a 4-drawer filing cabinet to replace the 2-drawer that isn't enough.

20. HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR HOUSEHOLD ORGANIZED? (Calendar's, Chart's, etc.)
I mainly have everything on the calendar. My computer desk has an erasable white board attached to it...that's where my honey do list is located. And I have to say that my honey do pretty good at getting it done...well, most of the time anyways. No charts or anything like that. Just a do it and get it over with mind set. Cause' ya know if I let it go for too long, then it escapes to that far away distant place in my brain that says "what are you talking about, I don't remember that".
