An Award and Swap and Permission Granted

Yay, I got an awuuurd!, aka award. Thanks to Steph at Watching Airplanes! Thank you! Wish I could meet her, and a few others in real life, that would be a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

I'm just gonna pass this on to one person this time...cause it will tie in with the Spring Swap that I am doing...so, this will go to...

Mimi @ Living In France

Mimi is my swap partner! I'm sooo esssited! This.is.going.to.be.fun! Be prepared Mimi, I have some cool and fekkin' funny shiz in mind!

Now last, but not least, Missy aka Nuke Girl at Everything But The Kitchen Sink has granted me permission to re-post one of her posts. It deals with racism...and where do I stand on racism?...I can't stand racism. There is good and bad in every color, and your color doesn't matter to me, I'll luv ya no matter your color, what matters to me is who you are as a person. I think it's way past time for it all to end. So, here is her post...

I finally finished the two week-long School Of Ship yesterday. Thank the good Lord, because if I had to endure being cooped up in that tiny ass, stuffy little room with all those numnuts for one more day... well, some heads were going to roll.

For all the training and lectures we get spoon-fed about how the Navy is ethnically diverse and you have to learn how to work together in harmony with people who are different than you, there sure are some racist mofos out there that still just don't get it.

One of my top three pet peeves in life is racism. If you really want to make me see red, act like an ignorant bigot in front of me.

In this School Of Ship class, four or five African-Americans ~ all of them about 19 years old and none of them higher-ranking than E-3 ~ segregated themselves in the back corner of the classroom on Monday morning; and spent the rest of the week blatantly ignoring the briefs and lectures while they chatted, texted, flirted amongst themselves and were altogether disruptive.

When a PO2 finally told them nicely to stop and that they were being disrespectful and needed to be quiet, one girl sneered and said, "Oooooooh, nuh-uh!" while one of the guys looked straight at the second-class and said challengingly, "Why don't you mind your own damn business?" and then muttered softly under his breath to the girl next to him, "Stupid white bitch."

OMG. See, people like that guy are the ignorant people I referred to earlier. The PO2 wasn't mean or snobby about it, and she had every right to tell them to shut the hell up because she outranked all of them. She didn't single them out because they were black, but rather because they were being loud and rude.

It was the most ignorant thing I've witnessed in a while.

However, a second later I was even more shocked. The entire room fell silent as the cute, tiny African-American girl sitting right next to me ~ who was also a PO2 and had heard what the guy whispered ~ turned in her seat, stared at him coolly for a second, and then unleashed on him. I mean, she absolutely shredded him a new asshole about showing disrespect to a petty officer, and then called him out on his racist comment right in front of the whole class.

It was the most applause-worthy thing I've witnessed in a while.

Now, I'm not pointing fingers at him or anyone else. Whether you're slightly prejudiced or a full blown card-carrying member of the KKK or the Black Panthers, no one is innocent. Everyone has said (or thought) something racist or made some passing remark that had an ethnic slur attached to it. I dare someone to tell me that they've never said something that had racist overtones, even if was repeating a funny joke you heard at work.

We're all guilty, myself included. But the older I get, the more I start to realize that it will never stop unless people start taking action to break the vicious cycle, like this girl did.

My personal take on the race issue is this: I harbor prejudice against ignorance. That's it. I don't care if you're white, black, green or purple; if you wear your ignorance on your sleeve for all the world to see, I'm going to treat you like an ignorant fool. If you treat me with courtesy and respect, I'll do the same.

Theoretically in a perfect world, we should all treat people with courtesy and respect no matter how badly they treat us. Right? The Golden Rule? "Turn the other cheek"? Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world; and that is much more easily said than done.

I feel like America is more segregated now than it ever was 150 years ago. Or hell, even 50 years ago.

Back then, at least racism was a prominently displayed open wound; no one hid their racism behind a mask and pretended not to be a total bigot. Slavery. Slave owners. Socially acceptable mistreatment of ethnic minorities. Indian reservations. Segregated schools. Segregated churches. Segregated buses. That's your side, this is my side, there's the line in the middle, don't you dare cross it. It was the norm and it was reality in a very physical sense.

Nowadays, racism runs just as rampant. But instead of an open wound, it's like festering sore that has a Carebear Band-Aid slapped over it so no one has to see or be bothered by the sheer ugliness of the infection. For the most part in our paranoid, increasingly timid, politically correct society, racism is no longer something bold and open. Hell, even people who aren't racists are scared to call "bullshit" on someone for fear they'll be accused of being racists and get sued. No, bigotry today thrives on in society as a snide remark here, or a muttered comment there. It's there, and it's real, and everybody knows it, and most people are too apathetic or afraid to do anything about it.

What's the world coming to when a person can't ask his neighbor to stop leaving trash on their shared lawn without said neighbor then freaking the fuck out, shouting obscenities and racial slurs at him, and threatening to sue him for harassment and discrimination?? (That really happened to my co-worker last week.)

Unfortunately, when someone makes a derogatory ethnic slur at you, your human nature, your "knee-jerk reaction" tells you make one right back. Put them in their place. Show them what's up. Show them you're not gonna take that shit, especially from a stupid, ignorant piece of [insert ethnic slur] trash who's just a [insert ethnic slur] anyways.

What makes anyone think they're superior to anyone else based on the color of their skin? Or what country they come from? At pure face value, I'm no better or worse than you. Just different. What is so wrong with that?

Oh, and the worst part? Terms that are considered highly derogatory if coming from someone of a different ethnicity are used as endearing nicknames and are perfectly acceptable if coming from someone of the same ethnic minority. "Heeeey, what's up, you stupid redneck? I haven't seen you in forever!" That one was overheard from one white guy to his white buddy in the mall the other day. Also heard in the same mall on the same day from one young black guy to his buddy, "Nigga, please, you don't even know what you talkin' 'bout! Hahahaaaahahaaa!"

WTF. Seriously.

I could rant on about this topic all day, but quite frankly.... it's exhausting.

I wish we could just end all the racism and prejudice completely. It seems impossible, doesn't it?

It's not. Some things are improbable, yes; but nothing is impossible.

So the next time someone makes an ignorant slur at you, or you witness one directed towards someone else, or that one dude in the office tells the funny racist joke that's not funny for the millionth time...

Fix them, since they're too ignorant to fix themselves.

The next time you have an ethnic slur on the tip of your tongue....

Fix yourself. Bite your tongue.

Break the vicious cycle.

A Funny Story and Awards

Ok, I'll start this with a funny story. We just left Shortmama's house a little bit ago from her daughter Rhiannon's birthday party. Well Shortmama's 2nd cousin is staying the night with my daughter Alyssa tonight. We decided to take Alyssa and the cousin and Jayce out for a ranger ride. While on the ride the kids were having a good time being all crazy. Out of nowhere, Alyssa decides to share with all of us that she has a wedgie. We share these kinds of things ya know. So anybuttfloss, "cousin" didn't quite hear Alyssa and she said "WHAT?"! She had thought that Alyssa had asked her if she had a wedgie, and she was like "what kind of question is that?!!". That got us all cracking up. And then "cousin" decided to remember about the time that I wore underwear on the outside of my clothes for Shortmama's mom's 50th birthday party. I told her it was so I wouldn't get a wedgie! And then she said "you mean, you weren't really wearing any other underwear!". Oh man, kids are great! Here's a little pic of the underoo episode...

Ok, now on to the awards.

Have I told you lately that I love you...

Could you guys hear me singing that? If so, I'm so very sorry, cause I can't sing for shit. So anybrokeneardrums, just thanking all of you who follow my zany life and thoughts. And also a thanks to two ladies that have passed awards on to me. Oh ya, and thanks for sharing your lives with me, I'm really digging how I'm really getting to know some of you and enjoying our back and forth emailsations...that's my shortened version of email conversations.

This first award comes from....

Holy mole poop...I just went to One Loopy Life's blog, cause that's where the first award came from....and what do ya know, she's given me yet another award today! 'Scuse me while I gather myself! So it seems to be that I have three awards now.

So, the first two awards both come from One Loopy Life. Thank you! I know some don't like to check out who the awards come from, but it would be awesome if you could just check out the pics of her cutie little girl and especially the pics of her hilarious tub hair here. Gave me a really good laugh, so cute! And just as a P.S...she called me Dessert Rose..very common mistake people make of my title...but I'm not a yummy dessert...I live in the hot AZ desert!

Here is the first award...

1. Copy and paste the award on your blog.
2. List who gave the award to you and use a link to her blog (or hyperlink).
3. List 10 things that make you happy.
4. Pass the award on to other bloggers and visit their blog to let them know!

10 Things that make me happy are:

1. When the kids say things that make me laugh, and when the are naive!
2. Margarita's, with Monin Agave Nectar.
3. Napping. Love me a nap.
4. Reading.
5. Quad Riding.
6. Camping.
7. The beach.
8. My friends...luv them.
9. Road trips.
10. Orange circus peanuts...yum.

Now for who I'm passing it on to...I'm only going to pick a couple, cause I swear this post is going to be hella long, and it's very time consuming!

* Frau from West Family Adventures...she's sick to day and looking for remedies, so this is my remedy for her!
*Arizona Mamma from Our Daze In The Desert...yup, she's an Arizonan like me. Maybe one day we shall meet.

Now here is the 2nd award that One Loopy Life gave me...I've actually been awaiting this one, it's so cute! So thank you!

The rules are to list 10 things you may not know about me, and to pass it on to 10.

Ok, so here's the thing, I'll list the 10 things, but it's late, I'm tired, and I don't follow rules sometimes, so again, I will pick just a couple of bloggers to pass it on to.

So here are 10 things that you may not know about me...and maybe you don't want to!

1. I can't stand bras. Uncomfortable.
2. I wear a bra cause I don't want the small mounds to look like pancakes sooner than they should.
3. Sometimes I curse like a sailor...and I thoroughly enjoy it.
4. I don't like to be told what to do.
5. I like shooting hand guns, but not shot guns and rifles.
6. I used to be a streaker, skinny dipper....having kids has cured me of this. Damn.
7. I have NEVER texted. I know, I know...you can stop looking at me like that now.
8. I'm like an old person, I go to sleep early. Well between 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. usually.
9. When I get tired, I get cranky.
10. I've always wanted a motorcycle.

I will pass this award on to...

*Everything But The Kitchen Sink....she's funny and a smart ass, and she likes to cuss like a sailor too, er, maybe cause she's a Navy Girl!
*Fighting Off Frumpy....I don't even think she knows I'm following her, so maybe I'm just stalking her....she talks about some funny shiz!

Ok and now for the award from 3 Boys + 1 Hubby = What's Next. Thank you!

I'm passing this award on to...

*Sitting on the Mood Swing at the Playground....She's definitely brought some sunshine to my life, cause #1 I like her blog and #2 I've won 2 giveaways that she has done...woot woot!
*NieNie....Ok, so I don't think I could technically give this award to her, cause her blog doesn't take comments that I know of....but let me tell you, just watching what this woman has gone through and she still keeps her chin up, that spreads a little sunshine in my world, cause if she can keep her chin up through all her pain, then I'll be damned if I can't get through some tough bumps in the road.

So thanks again for the awards....and sorry for the long post!

Awards

Now I have thanks to give to two ladies who have given me awards.

This first award comes from Mimi @ Living in France. We've been stalking each other for a while now...she's a funny fekker...keeps me entertained. Sounds like I'm giving her the award or something!

Here is the award that she has bestowed upon me....

The rules are:
Name 6 things I am master of. Like you don't already know...duh!
And then pass it on to 6 bloggers that are master of friendship and making blogging so awesome.

Mmkay, so here are the six things that I am a master of...let me take a moment to make some things up here...

*I'm the master of LMFAO when my husband asked what I'm a master of, and then he told me I'm a masterbator. Bwahahahahaaaaaaaaa. But don't tell anyone.
~I'm a master of getting plenty of sleep yet feeling like I'm not well rested. I'm a serial napper....love it.
*I'm a master of grounding myself to my room when the kids are fighting.
~I'm a master of diving head first into things that might intimidate me, kinda like public speaking, and then getting pissed off and regretting it later. Think first dangit.
*I'm the master of the state fair. Rides, cotton candy, old tyme photos, cotton candy, BBQ, cotton candy, lemonade and cotton candy.
~I've mastered being the kinda girl that's not so much a girly girl...Imma let's get out and play in the dirt kinda girl.

And now for the 6 bloggers that I will pass this on to...I'm going to pass it on to some of the newer blogs that I have found.

~Arizona Mamma @ Our Daze in the Desert
~Steph @ Watching Airplanes
~Shell @ Things I Can't Say
~Missy @ Everything But The Kitchen Sink
~Cop Mama
~Alicia @ It Ain't Easy Being Cheesy

Now the second award that I received comes from Mass Hole Mommy. We're still kinda new to each other, so that's awesome that she thought of me! Thank you much!

So...here are the rules to receive the Beautiful Blogger award:
1. Thank & link to the person that gave you the award!
2. Pass this award onto 15 bloggers you’ve discovered & think are fantastic.
3. Contact said Blogs & let them know they've won!
4. State 7 things about yourself.

Well, let me first start by saying that there's no way in sam heck that I have the patience right now to pass it on to 15 bloggers and then link up to them all. Mmm mmm. I can't follow all the rules all the time, so that one is gonna have to go by the wayside this time....if you only knew how long it took me to pick and link on the last award!

So, I will state 7 things about myself...

1. I'm a sugaraholic...but I'm not supposed to be since I'm hypoglycemic. I'll take a little bit of tea with my sugar please.

2. I'm kinda two-sided. I can be a really quiet, shy, introverted kinda girl. Or I can get all out crazy and say/do some pretty wild things. (Be quiet Shortmama, you have no stories to tell on this subject)

3. I found working as an emergency dispatcher less stressful than raising kids ; )

4. I got caught smoking in 2nd grade...it cured me from ever wanting to smoke again.

5. I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. I like it when it's short, cause it's sassy. But I'd love to have it really long, but the longer it gets the thinner it looks. I do have a lot of hair, but it's very fine.

6. I used to be a little scrapper when I was young...young as in before the third grade. I grew up in the ghetto until the third grade, so you had to. So every fight that I've ever been in was before the 3rd grade. I got kicked off the bus for beating up the boys at the bus stop, ya know, stuff like that. Now I don't care to, I like to avoid drama and confrontation.

7. I'm an outdoors kinda girl. Love camping, hiking, boating, quad riding, swimming. Fun, adventurous, peaceful.

Thanks again for the awards ladies!

Award

This morning I arose to...an award! Andrea from Arise 2 Write left me a message that she has given me an award. I'm sure I'm not the only one that is really appreciative of these awards, yet feel kinda silly at the same time thinking "what have I done to deserve this". I feel like I'm just blabbing..and then, I receive an award.

So anywho...here is the award that she has passed on to me....

And I am supposed to tell 5 things that I love to do.

1) I love to go hiking.
2) I love being with family and friends and having a wonderful time.
3) I love reading.
4) I love to be silly, have sarcastic humor, produce laughs, be good yet still get a little crazy.
5) I love going to concerts..which I don't do enough of..but still love it.

There is no rule (yay!) on who it needs to be passed on to...so I'm gonna pass it on the the ladies I've been in the most contact with...in no particular order...

~ 3 Boys + 1 Hubby = What Next???
~ Family of Shorts.....My friend in real life
~ Living in France
~ The Five Fish
~ One Foot in Front of the Other
~ Sitting on the Mood Swing at the Playground......her title still cracks me to this day!
~ Tattoos and Teething Rings
~ The Life of Me Plus Three
~ Headaches, Hotflashes & Hormones

Veteran's Day.....and Awards.

I would like to wish all of the Veteran's a Happy Veteran's Day, and hope they know that today isn't the only day that they are thought of. My husband is an Army Veteran, and I have to say that I am so very thankful that he served before we met. I'm not so sure of all the agony our family would have to have gone through, as I feel greatly for those who are currently serving and their families. Also in my thoughts are those that have greatly suffered surrounding the current event that has taken place at Fort Hood. Seriously, there is a lot of anger that we even have to worry about our safety.

Oh ya, and a little confusion here...Veteran's don't get Veteran's Day off, but the school children do. And stores hold Veteran's Day sales hoping for more profits. Kinda crazy to me, but I don't think that's what Veteran's Day is all about. I'm just sayin'.

Now I have a huge THANK YOU to Mag from Sitting on the Mood Swing at the Playground. Seriously, do you not just love her title! It's so dang good and witty.

So anywho..Mag has passed on 3 awards:

As far as I can tell only one of the awards comes with rules. The Honest Scrap award says I have to share ten honest things about myself. Here goes:

1. I love watching Ultimate Fighting Championship. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to take training to be a kick boxer. I go to hockey games just to watch them fight. It's kind of strange I guess, since #1 I'm not an angry person and #2 I've NEVER been in a fight!

2. I used to refuse to make coffee at the fire department I used to work at, stating it smelled bad and was yucky. I now drink a cup of coffee a day. I think the fire chief jinxed me...he said "you just wait, you will drink it one day". I definitely can go days without drinking any, but I do enjoy a cup with some yummy french vanilla creamer. Though some of my friends say I'm drinking milk instead of coffee because of how much creamer I add!

3. I have high cholesterol and low blood sugar...go figure. I'm not overweight, don't eat too much and eat mainly chicken for dinner. The cholesterol is hereditary...and the sugar might be my fault. I was a sugaraholic. I still might be, but not as bad as I used to be. So now my body likes to crash to low sugar levels, leaving me feeling shaky and not quite there. It's a great feeling! Not.

4. I was going to stop having kids after my first. There are now 5 kids between my husband and I. I don't know what happened along the way...I don't think anyone told us what causes that! Once we learned though, I got "fixed". Buuuuut..it didn't work, and I ended up with a tubal pregnancy. It sucked. And I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW!! I went in for a yearly woman well check and they took a just in case test. It was a dead give away when the assistant came back in to the room to check the results, and she picked up the stick, looked at it for a few seconds, and said "I'll be right back with the doctor". I can't be part of the small percentage to win the lotto, but I am part of the small percentage to get preggo after being "fixed"!

5. My favorite color is purple.

6. I hate to cook. I grew up with my grandparents who owned a motel. The office was in the living quarters and my grandpa never wanted anyone to cook much since he didn't want it to smell up the place, so we were always going out to eat. And hence, I don't like to cook. I married a man who does! I'm enjoying his yummy french toast while I'm blogging right now!

7. I think I was born to live in a nudist colony. I don't like clothes. I used to streak quite a bit and was never happier. Now...I wouldn't dare...the things that having kids can do to a body..good gawd!

8. I am a really shy person..until I get to know someone. I am more introverted than extroverted. And yet I still have a wild streak to my personality.

9. I have found that being an emergency dispatcher was much easier than raising kids. Enough said.

10. I am so happy that my friend Shortmama introduced me to blogging...I love this shat!

So Mag passed the awards to six people..and I'm going to do the same...

~ The Crazy Baby Mama
~Tattoos and Teething Rings
~One Foot in Front of the Other
~ Living in France
~ Carrin's Comments
~ Overflowing Bookshelf

Thanks again to Mag!

A Thank You to ....Laugh until you Cry

Back on October 26th, Beth from Laugh Until You Cry awarded me with these two awards...

The parameters and rules of the award:

"This award is bestowed on to blogs that are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers.

Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

After reviewing my blog roll...I have decided that I really do need to find some more blogs to follow! I found some when I first started blogging and then spent a small amount of time searching for others...and well, I don't follow too many! There are a few of the girls that I have already given awards to in the past...and I'm thinkin' they are gonna have to get some again.

I am going to pass this award on to:

*Jessica from Overflowing Bookshelf
*Tattoos and Teething Rings
*3 Boys + 1 Hubby = What Next?
*Rita from Fighting Off Frumpy......Good gawd this woman cracks me up!

*Mrs. Montoya from One Foot in Front of the Other
*Felicia from My Box of Chocolates
*Chantel from Chantelligence
*Shortmama from Family of Shorts

And this is the second award that I received from Beth...and I'm going to give it to everyone I mentioned above.

The rules are...

To accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award and his/her blog link. Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you have recently discovered and think are great! Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

Sometimes I break or bend the rules...so I'm not gonna do an extra 15 people...I don't even know if I have that many on my blog roll yet!

Thank you again to Beth for the awards....and to the ones I have passed the awards along to....I'M SO FREAKIN' GLAD I FOUND YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! (With the exception of Shortmama...I found her when we were just little crazy girls in 3rd grade)

Award

Got me another award...woohoo!...thanks Mimi!

While I don't actually know all the rules yet...I guess I have to tell 7 things you may not know about me...and then nominate 7 other blogs. The first part, no problemo, the second part, kinda hard since I have not researched very many blogs yet since I'm technically still a newbie.

So here goes with the 7 things you may not know about me (and may not want to know!)...

1. I am mainly a calm person, but get me out to a concert, sporting event, etc. and a whole new me breaks loose. Love dancing and getting crazy at concerts, love to go to hockey games just to watch the players fight, etc.

2. I have loose lips. Don't take that wrong! I tend to say some pretty shocking things that sometimes people can't believe I just said it. And..I don't really care. No embarrassment.

3. I have always held "normal" jobs, such as being a sales clerk/supervisor, and emergency dispatcher, etc. But, I have had other things that I guess wouldn't be so normal that I would have loved to have done...such as be on TV on that show called girl fight, where the girls get in the ring and box it out. How exciting!

4. I would never follow through with #3 though...I don't heal well.

5. A little on the more personal side...I grew up with my grandparents since my parents were addicts...I believe that everyone has a choice in life, either take the low road and screw your life up, or make good decisions and don't go down that path...I did not go down that path..I had wonderful grandparents that raised me and what a wonderful life I have.

6. I live in the desert, so anytime I see places that are nice and green, I am envious.

7. I have two tattoos...and will be getting my third and final one very soon. I will have to do a post when it's all done.

So that was the seven things you may not have known about me...and now you do!

As for nominating others...I think I will wait on that due to a few reasons. Right now I am just really enjoying reading others blogs and getting to know all of the different women and having fun connecting with others.

So thanks again Mimi! And thank you to everyone who has taken an interest in my moments!

This next award is bestowed on to blogs that are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends.

So seeing how I am still kinda new to this, and I haven't started to follow a lot of blogs yet, and in turn don't have a lot of followers..yet..then I am going to mention the people that I do get comments from and comment to the most.

They would be......

Some of these girls have already received these awards...so if one of you hasn't, then please take the award, as I love to read your blogs and thank you for taking an interest in mine!
